CCFC, Update, Working on CCFC Agenda for 2008-2010

Fri, 02/08/2008

From 2002 CCFC through 2006, CCFC participated in workshops of the Midwest Freight Corridor Study to contribute private sector perspectives on creation of what is now the 10-state Mississippi Valley Freight Coalition. For 2008-2009, MVFC will receive some $750,000 of federal funding, through the National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education ("CFIRE") at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to promote regional cooperation and coordination. CCFC participated in MVRC’s Regional Freight Workshop, at Dearborn, Michigan on February 26-28, 2007, contributing to development of testimony give by MVFC before the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission in April, 2007. CCFC also participated in CFIRE’s 1st Annual Research Workshop, at Madison, November 16, 2007, contributing to identification of priorities for distribution of freight transportation research funds. The 2008 MVFC Regional Freight Workshop is scheduled for March. A draft of CCFC 2008-2010 work agenda will be circulated in advance of the MVFC Workshop and finalized shortly thereafter.

Currently, at the request of several members of CCFC’s Steering Committee, CCFC is circulating an invitation for shippers on CN’s former Wisconsin Central lines to coordinate their activities on seeking CN’s attention to various service problems and, failing that, seeking relief through the public sector.

On February 27, 2008, at Green Bay, CCFC will participate in a forum aimed at bringing SCM and third-party logistics solutions to the problem of reducing empty truck and rail miles and other inefficiencies incurred in moving pulpwood from producers and consolidation yards to consuming mills in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and northern Ontario.
