CCFC Organization To Proceed

The message delivered by 30 plus attendees at CCFC's “pre-organizational” meeting, June 23, 2005: Get on with it, already. The directive of CCFC's Steering Committee is to proceed. The Central Corridors Freight Committee will be formally launched in October, 2005 in conjunction with an issues forum aimed at “defining a regional agenda for freight” and obtaining recognition of the “national and regional significance” of the key routes which constitute the “Central Corridors”. Those who understand the meaning of “The World is Flat” understand this is all about the competitiveness and security of our region in our nation and our nation in the world.

The Steering Committee endorsed an agenda of tasks for July-October, 2005, including:

 

• Communications with public sector and prospective private sector allies concerning CCFC's organizational goals. This will include exploring the potential for CCFC's October, 2005 issues forum to be held in conjunction with public sector colleagues engaged in Phase II of the Upper Midwest Freight Corridor Study.

• Continuation of contacts and initial briefings with prospective participants in the CCFC project, to assure a robust and representative private sector base for “looking at freight from a regional perspective” (complementing the objective of our public sector colleagues who sponsored the work of the Upper Midwest Freight Corridor Study and Phase II which is to commence  September 1, 2005).
  
• A summary of critical components of the final “highway” reauthorization bill (TEA-LU, SAFE-TEA, or by whatever name) which are critical to CCFC's potential agenda, near and long term.
  
• Continuing updates at www.centralcorridors.com and development of e-mail group facilities and CCFC listserv, pursuant to the direction of the Steering Committee.
  
• Articles of incorporation and bylaws and finalize antitrust guidelines for formal organization of CCFC.

Time and location of CCFC's October 2005 forum will be announced in early August. Participants who are unable to attend will receive full briefings through the CCFC network. Use CCFC Staff Contacts to schedule individualized briefings. We are pleased to provide a face-to-face briefing, at the participant's location, which will directly address the prospective CCFC participant's specific interests.
